Summer Wedding: makeup tips

Summer is undeniably the season for weddings. Summer is the perfect season to get married for a lot of reasons, but the heat and humidity can certainly pose problems from a hair and makeup standpoint. We’ve collected a few tips to help ensure your makeup will last for the big day.

Prime it. Even if it’s not part of your normal makeup routine, be sure to use a makeup primer to ensure your makeup is there to stay.

Skip the moisturizer. As long as your face isn’t feeling dry, just skip the moisturizer completely. Adding moisturizer to an already hydrated face will only encourage your makeup to melt away more quickly.

Sponge it on.  It’s universally accepted that liquid foundation is longer lasting, but it’s important to avoid applying it with too-heavy a hand. Instead, dab your foundation on with a makeup sponge.

Line those lids. Be sure to wear eyeliner on your wedding day to make your eyes pop. Look for eyeliner that’s especially long lasting to ensure your eyes can be seen twinkling all night. Bonus tip: use that same makeup primer (above) on your eyes to keep that eyeliner holding strong even through tears!

Luscious lips. Most experts agree that lipstick is a must on your wedding day. Stick with something matte in a soft shade like a rosy pink. Keeping your lipstick color close to your blush color ensures a cohesive look, and if it fades as the day wears on, it will be less noticeable.

Healthy, from the inside out

Clearly, we’re all about caring for our bodies. From exfoliating, to moisturizing, massaging, and everything in between, it’s all important. Our bodies love to be loved and taken care of. While all of the external work is great, and can yield wonderful results, those results can only go so far without a little work on the inside too.

This mango pineapple banana smoothie is a tasty treat that works wonders for your skin, from the inside. And tastes good while you’re at it!

What’s Botox again?

What’s Botox again?
To refresh your memory, Botox is one of three brands of a botulinum toxin that acts as a relaxing agent on your muscles (the others are Dysport and Xeomin).

What else can neurotoxins do to my face?
A lot. Doctors are consistently asked to inject Botox into the outside margin of the eyebrows, effectively lifting the brows. It’s kind of like a mini face-lift. Sometimes it’s used right above the lip, in the center where the nose meets the face; one drop lifts the tip of the nose. It’s also used in microdroplets on the top and the bottom of the lip to reduce that puckered lip line smokers have, or right under the lash line to soften the crepiness of the lower lid.  Also, surprisingly, injecting it into the chin slims out the lower half of the face making the upper cheek level look more youthful and plumper.

Can Botox help my neck?
Yes. Those folds you get around your neck, the ones that look like tree trunk lines, are actually called platysmal bands and neurotoxins can help A good reminder to use your moisturizers and serums on your neck, as well as your face.)

If I get Botox underneath my arms, does it mean I never have to buy deodorant again?
Sort of. No doctor is going to inject enough Botox into your armpits to keep you from ever sweating again; the skin would get dry, chafe, and be very uncomfortable. But injections can reduce your sweating by up to 80%. Using deodorant is still recommended for extra control.

Does Botox really make migraines go away?
Some studies suggest neurotoxins can actually block the pain signals that cause migraines (in this case, it lasts a short three months). As always, it’s best to consult with your own doctor before considering using Botox to fight your migraines.

Show off your freckles!

If you’re one of the lucky dames that have been blessed with some lovely sprinkles of sun dust, I have one small request of you — don’t you even think about covering them up!
The best rule of thumb for freckle-enhancing makeup is to go for natural hues that won’t clash with the colour of your freckles. We’re talking pink, peach and light bronze tones —  these are the colours you want to reach for, particularly when picking blush or bronzer shades.

How do I get rid of peeling, sunburned skin?

The key is to exfoliate several times per week to buff away any dead skin cells and moisturise twice daily so you can restore your skin back to a smooth surface.
When you shower, use a loofah sponge or brush to exfoliate every inch of your body.
Follow this up with a nourishing, gentle body wash. If the skin is particularly sore, use a damp washcloth instead, and rub it on the peeling areas in soft, circular motions for a quick fix to gentle exfoliation.

Once you're out of the shower, pat your skin dry, and while it's still slightly damp, slather on a good, hydrating moisturiser.  Do this morning and night, until peeling skin has finally come to a halt.
Another trick is to drink looooooads of water. Overdose on the stuff! You'd be surprised what kind of replenishing effect this will have on your dermal layers.

For any inflamed areas, treat with gentle aloe vera gel or vitamin E oil which cures pretty much any problem area in a snap, thanks to healing, restorative properties. Whatever you do, don't scratch away at your skin which can potentially lead to scarring. If your skin does feel irritated, try running an ice cube wrapped in soft cloth over any problem areas to dull the sensation.

Remember, nothing protects your skin more than a good broad spectrum SPF, so don't skimp on the stuff while out in the sun!

Wear Sunscreen, no matter the forecast

One of the biggest skin-related mistakes most people make is avoiding using sunscreen on days when it seems overcast. UVA rays travel through the windows of your car, home & office and are known to have carcinogenic properties. Dermatologists recommend everyone wears a broad spectrum sunscreen daily for the best protection against the suns harmful rays.

Water -- Yes Water -- Can Make You Look 10 Years Younger

Writer Sarah Smith challenged herself to drink three liters of water per day -- for 28 days, to find out what might happen to her health, and her skin if she actually followed the water rules.

The water, says Smith, improved her joint flexibility, her complexion, her breath, and her headaches -- and it upped her ability to concentrate. Plus, she lost two pounds, and half an inch around her waist with no additional changes to her diet or exercise routine. That's because, as Smith noted, "I'm eating less because drinking water with meals makes me feel fuller quicker. I used to snack, but I was reaching for food when I was actually thirsty. Studies show 37 percent of people mistake thirst for hunger."

The difference was particularly noticeable around Smith's eyes, which were previously ringed in dark circles. Post-water diet, her eyes were clearer, sharper, and definitely brighter. "I feel fitter, leaner and healthier, and my husband and friends tell me I look ten years younger," she writes. "Who in their right mind would not want to try something which gets such incredible results?"

If your face is the canvas, then your eyebrows are the frame.

Like any work of art, your face deserves a stunning frame to match. Getting full, lush brows doesn't require a certificate three. in makeup, promise. With the help of some basic products, you can create bold, defined, face-framing brows. So, drop the tweezers — stat! — and learn how to create the brows you've been dreaming of.

Lipstick that stays put all night long

Exfoliate & Moisturize
First, you will need to use a lip scrub to exfoliate any dead skin and smooth out the surface of your lips. This will leave your pout ready for a rich lip balm (which we get to next). Keep your lips smooth and hydrated by applying a good balm every night before you go to bed.

Line
Once your lips are fully exfoliated and moisturized, you will need to add definition and shape with a lip liner that matches the hue of your lipstick. This will also help prevent feathering later on — meaning your lipstick won’t run outside of the lines.

Tint
Now it’s time to fill it all in with color. Choose a tint that’s a pretty close match to the color of your lipstick. A lip tint will essentially “stain” your lips, so even if you are eating and drinking throughout the night, there will be some color on your lips at all times. Tints also work really well after your lips are exfoliated, so don’t forget step one!

Lipstick
After your lips are prepped, lined, and tinted, go ahead and apply your lipstick color. Just continue to make sure that you are using uniform shades through the process so that you aren’t getting a mixed, mucky hue.

Seal
Your last step for getting smooch-certified lips is, literally, sealing the deal. After you apply your lipstick, hold a tissue over your lips and lightly dust translucent powder over the tissue. The powder will ever-so-lightly fall on your lips through the tissue, and it will set your lip color the same way it sets your makeup when you use it on your face.
