Skin Healthy Salad: Baby Kale & Blackberries

1.

At Bronzalicious, we’re big fans of eating foods that fuel our bodies in a healthy way. We’ve come to learn that salads are one of the best ways to pack a whole lot of nutrition into just one meal because the topping choices and combinations are endless! Certain foods boost the absorption of others, and work well in pairs. We love to use salads to our advantage in this way and combine foods that taste great and fuel our bodies best.

This is a perfect sized salad to pack for a weekday lunch or double the recipe and make a picnic lunch for two this weekend!

Skin Healthy Salad: Baby Kale & Blackberries

2 cups of kale
½ cup of blackberries
¼ avocado, thinly sliced
2 oz ricotta cheese
Handful of dried almonds (plain or honey)

For the dressing:
2 tablespoons of lemon juice
1 ½ tablespoons olive oil
Salt & pepper

Advantages of Gel Manicures

Gel manicures for most people are a huge improvement off the original ‘mani’ because gel polishes last for the long haul without chipping or flaking. Think 2-4 weeks of long lasting beautiful nails!

Gel nails are also great for those who are impatient waiting for their nails to dry. This product does apply like a polish, but dries and hardens quickly after being processed and won’t chip or crack for weeks afterward. Perfect for a special event or get together as well as for day to day wear.

At Bronzalicious we offer:
Gel Add on Mani $20
Gel Add on Pedi $20

Gel French Mani $30

Prep your skin like the models do

Many of us look to models as role models. We’re always looking to fashion models for their hair and beauty looks, but why not their skin care routine as well?

Many models report using minimal products the week before a big shoot or event, like fashion week.  It stands true, the simpler the better and gentle products are a must.

Applying lots of moisturiser and sunscreen is also a highly dished out tip, one that we can’t help but agree with ourselves! A good skin care regime is assumed in this case, but it was noted that makeup wipes are often not recommended as they don’t do much wiping, but more ‘smearing’ than anything.

Gaining a whiter grin

Smile, eyes, and teeth are said to be the top things that people look for in a potential spouse. Having good teeth is a sign of good hygine and self care. We’ve rounded up a few tips to help you keep your teeth in tip top shape.

The utmost important tip is to make sure that you don’t brush too hard- it will simply strip away the enamel which leads to yellowed and sensitive teeth. Because of this, you should always use a brush with soft bristles.

Brush twice a day, every day, for a minimum of 2 minutes per session. Flossing and swishing mouthwash should also be a daily task.

If you’re a coffee drinker, don’t despair! Simply get in the habit of swishing your mouth with water frequently while sipping on your beloved morning beverage.

Frankie Elizabeth

Ben & I would just like to express our sincere gratitude for all of your heart-felt well wishes as well as stunning gifts that we have received for our newest addition to our family - 'Frankie Elizabeth Bentley’.  She arrived into the world on Friday 28th of March, and has been an absolute dream ever since.

There are some BIG thanks that we would like to pass on to North Shore Private Hospital I cannot praise highly enough the midwives and admin staff in the maternity ward at
North Shore Private Hospital ! They were beyond amazing. Having a baby is such an overwhelming and exciting time, and to have such caring, helpful, knowledgeable, and attentive midwives help us on this journey really made it all the more special. Nothing was too much, and the support you gave Ben & I and Frankie was so special.  Secretly I was hoping we could stay for a few days more. Until next time NSPH, keep up the amazing work you do, and we will be sure to recommend you to all our friends & family.

This week we were so lucky to have one of our clients Deanna M from Dimages.com.au shoot some very special photos of Frankie when we arrived home.  What an exceptional person Deanna is, I’m sure she is a baby whisperer as well the most incredible photographer. Her knowledge & experience of newborns was fascinating. She not only provided us with these gorgeous photos (as I’m sure you agree), but also left us with great tips and tricks on newborn behaviour.  This is one very passionate and caring photographer that I would highly recommend to anyone having a baby and wanting to capture these special newborn moments.

Guide to great skin- on your wedding day

From the moment you get engaged, it’s time to amp up your skincare routine in order to prep your skin perfectly for your big day. If you’ve got any bad beauty habits- now is the time to nix them. Start drinking those 8 glasses of water, and exfoliate regularly. Abide by the basic skincare rules religiously.

Scheduling regular facials can help your skin maintain a happy texture and creates a great foundation for makeup. Schedule a consecutive monthly facial for at least the last three months leading up to your wedding.

Consider consulting makeup professionals at least 6 months before the big day. Go in for a trial run then, and get a sense for what you like. We recommend coming back several months later for another makeup session. Your plans will have progressed by then, and this ensures you makeup look is the one you want.

If you’ve been dying to try out a new makeup trend or bold color, now is probably not the time. We recommend brides save their wedding day for a more classic look and use the honeymoon as a time to try out some fun & flirty new colors.

Fun & Flirty Makeup Trends

Makeup trends are always changing- seasonally, yearly, and even quicker than that! If you see a trend you like, we say ‘grab the bull by the horns and go for it!’ Here are a few makeup trends that have caught our eye as of late.

Colored cat eye- traditionally the cat eye is done in black- but why not amp up the color and go with pink, blue or green? It’s a fun way to change your look instantly.

Sequined eyes- certainly more of a nighttime look. Sequined eyes can be as subtle or dramatic as you wish. The larger the sequins used, and the more of the applied the more dramatic your finished look will be. We love the sequined lined under-eye.

Smokey purple- ever since orchid was named the panatone color of the year for 2014, the purples have been reigning high and mighty. A smokey purple color on the eye looks great for all skin types and is instantly dramatic and romantic.

Common beauty mistakes

Rushing through the routine is probably most women’s biggest mistake. For instance-it’s vital to allow your moisturized time to sink in before moving on to other serums, primer, or foundation.

Over-wearing of the ponytail is another one. While we’ll admit it’s cute & convenient, it also stresses your hair and scalp. Give your head and hair a break and wear your hair down several days a week.

If you aren’t washing your makeup brushes you could be unintentionally sabotaging your own skincare routine. Cleansing your brushes once a month is important to avoid the spread of bacteria back onto your face.

We’re sure you’re aware that too much shampoo isn’t ideal. What you may be surprised to learn is that the same thing actually goes for conditioner. If you use too much on a regular basis, it can make your hair look oily, even immediately after being washed.

Skincare during pregnancy

Using products that are gentle on your skin and body is important for everyone, but doubly so for pregnant women. The hormonal changes that come along with pregnancy are enough to wreak havoc on some women’s skin. Once pregnant, you can’t just treat your acne with over the counter medication like you could in your teens though.

Slice a lemon and rub it over your face. Let the oils sit on for 20 minutes before gently rinsing away. The lemon can help balance the oils on your face, and has a lightening, brightening effect too.

An oatmeal scrub can be a great way to gently exfoliate and moisturize your skin at home. Simply grind up oatmeal finely and mix with milk or olive oil. Rub in small circles across your entire face and neck, and rinse away with warm water.

Honey is a great natural anti-bacterial, anti-acne treatment. Make a homemade honey mask by applying a thin layer to your face and neck and letting sit for 10 minutes before rinsing away. You can also use honey as a spot-treatment for acne-let it sit several hours or overnight for maximum efficacy.

When using any skincare, beauty, or cleaning products during pregnancy it’s always best to opt toward a natural option, and to always ask your doctor if you have any questions or concerns.
